The present contionuous
is used to talk about actions which are happening at the moment of speaking.
E.g.: Mary is talking to Catherine.
The present
continuous is also used to talk about actions which are permanent but
only for a short period of time.
E.g.: Silvia is studying hard for
the next exam.
The present continuous
is also used to talk about future arrangements. Those arrangements are
completely sure, such as a visit to a doctor, the day of the holidays
(if you have already bought the plane tickets), etc.
E.g.: I am going
to Menorca this summer.
